People make an emotional connection through art. Our exhibition will invite visitors to slow down to truly appreciate the beautiful wildlife that surrounds us and be inspired to support it.
Alongside the art work there will be displays from local wildlife conservation groups. Visitors will be able to learn how to make or order a swift box and protect the beautiful creatures that they see in the exhibition.
Pick up information about beautiful nature reserves you can visit.
The artists:
Diana Catchpole
Diana is based in Bartlow. She has had a career illustrating children’s books. She sells her lino prints in the UK and abroad. Diana says: “I find inspiration in my surroundings; The countryside and the wonderful animals that inhabit it.“
Sachiko Purser
Sachiko’s work includes watercolours, pastels, Japanese ink painting and woodblock printing. She also teaches her fascinating photopolymer etching techniques. A member of the Cambridge Drawing Society, she graduated with a BA in Illustration from Cambridge School of Art and has an MA in Children’s Book Illustration and Printmaking.
Ali Ginn
Originally trained in Visual Communications, Ali’s professional background spans both graphic design and fine art. Inspired by the natural world from an early age, nature remains the central influence throughout her creative practice. Working primarily in watercolour her work explores the interplay of light, movement, and colour.
Paul Wyer
Naturalist and wildlife photographer based in Cambridgeshire. Paul is a public engagement officer for the Beds, Cambs & Northants Wildlife Trust. His beautiful work captures fleeting moments of wildlife in amazing locations. He has a wealth of knowledge, which he loves to share so that we can all learn how to experience the wonders in our local countryside.
Darryl Nantais
As a child Darryl began painting landscapes from the banks of the Little and Great Ouse. When he was twelve he moved to the Norfolk coast and turned his attention to “exciting dramatic skies”. After leaving home and touring England with his sketchbook, he settled in Norwich where he studied the past Norfolk Masters. Darryl’s oil paintings continue to reflect his great enthusiasm for everything that he sees.
Maureen Williams
From a young age, Maureen has painted and drawn birds and flowers. By her early 20s, she had established herself as a glass engraver. Maureen has continued to be inspired by local flora and fauna and has created illustrations for the Country Matters column in the Linton News for 39 years. She says: “I am very much a Linton person with roots growing out of my toes and into this chalk and clay soil”.
Conservation groups:
The Wildlife Trust for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire
They manage over 100 nature reserves, including some of Britain’s rarest habitats such as meadows, fens, ancient woods, river margins, lakes and old gravel pits and much more.
Friends of the River Granta (FROG)
A volunteer group who work to protect our local river, the Granta, a rare chalk stream. They carry out important conservation work to improve the river habitat and encourage greater biodiversity.
Linton Swifts Project
Rob McEwen & Alan Sanders offer practical advice about swift boxes. They can supply ready made boxes or instructions on how to make your own.
